New Article: Understanding Trauma’s Impact on Learning

We write this month to share a newly published article with you. The February, 2109 edition of School Administrator, the American Association of School Administrators’ award-winning monthly magazine, features an article written by TLPI’s Director, Susan Cole.

The article describes how an understanding of trauma’s impact on learning can be a pathway to creating a school culture where every child living through adversity can be successful and shares some of the outstanding outcomes identified by the American Institutes of Research in a two year research study of five demonstration schools in Massachusetts who were using the trauma-sensitive approach set forth in Helping Traumatized Children Learn, Vol. 2.

Dr. Sal Terrasi, former Director of Pupil Personnel in the Brockton Public Schools, is also featured in this edition. Dr. Terrasi shares the three R’s of developing a trauma-sensitive school and highlights the work being done in the district.
