17 MA Districts and Their Selected Schools Receive FY18 Safe and Supportive Schools Grants

MA DESE announced grant awards for the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 (FY18) Safe and Supportive Schools Grant Program (Fund Code 335), funded through the Safe and Supportive Schools line item (7061-9612). The primary goal of the grant program is to support districts and their selected schools to organize, integrate, and sustain school and district-wide efforts to create safe and supportive school environments, and coordinate and align student support initiatives. Districts and schools use the Behavioral Health and Public Schools Framework and Self-Assessment Tool to develop their plans. The Behavioral Health and Public Schools Framework and Self-Assessment Tool are in the process of being revised by the Safe and Supportive Schools Commission to serve as  the Safe & Supportive Schools Framework and Self- Assessment Tool.

Grant recipients were eligible to apply to use the funds for one of two categories: Category A: to convene school and district-based teams to use the BHPS Self-Assessment Tool and create school and district action plans based on the results; or Category B:  for former BHPS Self-Assessment Tool users (that have already created school and district action plans) to use funds to now implement their action plans.

A total of 17 districts and their selected schools will receive funds through the two categories described above to create safe, supportive and welcoming school environments.
